New Rules and Regulations for using your overseas purchased mobile or electronic devices with local sim cards in North Cyprus

by Tags: North Cyprus Mobile Phones, North Cyprus Electronic Devices, Mobile Phone Laws Cyprus

If you are staying in North Cyprus for over 90 days and you are planning to use your mobile or tablet or any device purchased from a foreign destination with a local sim card, then you will need to register it with The Information Technology and Communications Council (ITCN) under the new Electronic Communications Act 06/2012 and 21/2014. The ITCN center is based in central Nicosia.

You do not need to register any of your devices and still use a local sim card, if you are not staying in North Cyprus for more than 90 days or if you will continue using an overseas sim card after 90 days.

Practical To Do List for Registration:

  1. Take your mobile or tablet or electronic device with with you.
  2. Find out your IMEI number by clicking on this link http://www.bthkmcks.org/
  3. Have your passport copy ready and take the original with you.
  4. You will need to pay registration fee (upto 15TL) with your credit card or debit card only.
  5. Be prepared to pay customs duty/tax based on the value of your mobile.
  6. You will then have your new IMEI number registered and can use a local sim card.
